ETHICS: I am a member of The Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), and work to their code of ethics, which are here.

DATA PROTECTION: I am registered as a Data Controller with The Information Commissioner's Office.

ADOPTION TRACING: There is much regulation around accessing adoption records and making contact with birth families. In the UK, the right to search has also recently been extended to certain descendants and relatives of adoptees. You may wish to discover genetic, medical, and other information (eg: ethnicity, heritage) which you've been missing due to your parent or grandparent having been adopted.

If you already know your/their name at birth you can apply for the original birth certificate. If you don't know the name, the first step is to contact the local authority in the area in which you currently live, as they may provide a free or subsidised service to find your birth name, and adoption file. There are also fee-paying agencies who are leaders in this field and who may also deal with international cases. They provide support, counselling and intermediary services to those affected by adoption.

If you want to make contact with birth family you should consider doing this via a registered adoption intermediary, because they are trained to consider all sides and deal with every possible outcome in what can be a very sensitive process.

If you already have your/the birth name I am able to provide certain services to help find out more about your origins. I have participated in three PAC adoption courses: "Doing Intermediary Work""The Journey Towards Reunion & Beyond"; and "The Primal Wound". But certain parts of the process must only be handled by specially registered agencies.

CERTIFICATES: If you would like to order a UK Birth, Death or Marriage record, please do so through the General Register Office (GRO). A PDF is only £6, or a standard certificate is £11 including postage. There is no need to order through a third party at more than double the cost!

Online ordering services for historic certificates are also available for New Zealand and Australian states. Please pop me an email and I'll be happy to help.
